Wrong QuestionThe question was asked, "Did Yashuah do away with the Law?" This is my response:-> And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. (Rom 8:10) The whole question is a false dilemma; it is one of the stumbling blocks that the adversary seeks to set in our way. The question is posed in such a way as to set grace against works as if they were two different things. Works come from the spirit residing in the heart and are not something added on by our own will power. The spirit in the heart is the grace of God freely given to those who live by faith in Jesus. I have noticed that for the most part those who rant and rave "THE LAW IS NOT DONE AWAY" are seeking some way to insure that they look and act righteous. My sense has always been that this is due to a lack of understanding of the nature of faith and, because of that lack of understanding, a lack of faith itself. It seems to come from the attitude that the spirit of Christ working in the heart is not sufficient to alter the behavior so that we conform to the law in our actions. The real question is "Are you seeking to wash the inside of the cup or the outside?" Washing the outside (the body dead in sin) is a waste of time. The unbroken law was placed inside the Ark of the Covenant. So it is that the law is kept in the heart where the spirit of Christ is, and it is that spirit that is righteous and brings life. Is an action taken out of the obedience of faith, or is it an attempt to make oneself appear righteous? If the former, it's a good thing. If the latter, it is ludicrous since no one [of us] is righteous, no not one. The only one righteous and the only one capable of keeping the law is Jesus Christ, our Lord. When He is in you and you are in Him, then the law lives in your heart and becomes the motivation for your action. All that is needed is to fill the heart with His presence, hear His voice, and obey as He commands. This is the nature of faith. To do anything else is a lack of faith in the power of His spirit to regenerate us. And, anything not of faith is sin. Only you and the Lord know what is in your heart, and thus I cannot say to anyone, do this or don't do that. All I can say to some one is, ask yourself is this done of faith, or is it fear of not being acceptable in appearance? God Bless. |
