Who Needs You!

"I will say to the north, Give up; and to the south, Keep not back: bring my sons from far, and my daughters from the ends of the earth; Even every one that is called by my name: for I have created him for my glory, I have formed him; yea, I have made him." (Isa 43:6-7 )

I don't know why I have to do stuff for God. He is all-powerful and certainly doesn't need me! He could shine His glory down from heaven and there would be no doubt about anything. If someone is sick, He can heal them with a word when they ask, so what purpose is there for me to pray for them? What's more, if there is something not right, He can by a single word change it all around and make it right. Why should I fight the wrongs of the world? So, I have to ask, what for? Why doesn't God do that? And, why can't I just be a spectator and watch what He does?

If He wants me to know something, He can just tell me. There is no need to listen to anyone else either! And, I shouldn't have to depend on other people, since they are weak (like me), have limited understanding (like me), make mistakes (like me), fail to keep their promises (like me), etc. Much better to depend on God alone! Who needs you? Who needs me?

It took me a long time to understand this, and I will say it's a little complicated, but I'll try to make it short. God doesn't NEED us; He wants us. He wants us to share in His work. He wants us to learn how He accomplishes things by having us participate in His work. He wants us to have the enjoyment of accomplishment, of fellowship, and the joy of sharing His work with others.

Even more, by using us His glory is shown to be greater than we might have otherwise seen. It's like someone who says, "I'll fight you with one hand tied behind my back!" The one who is most powerful can accomplish what he wants without having to use all that power. Not only can God do everything Himself, He can also accomplish His purposes with weak, human vessels. That's incredible if you ask me.

God works in us and through us. We may not always understand the purpose of His word to us, and we may not always get it exactly right. However, when we are willing to live by His word, to be perfect servants, we can become the instruments of His glory. That's amazing to me, and I consider it an honor and a privilege to serve Him.

"Ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me." (Isa 43:10 )
